Traditional bathrooms,
designed for the home
they belong to.
Traditional bathroom design, supply and complete installation for Georgian, Victorian and character properties across Bath, Bristol and surrounding villages.
Character retained.
Comfort considered.
Traditional bathroom design is not about recreating the past. It is about understanding what makes a period property distinctive and introducing modern comfort without losing the character that makes the home special.
Across Bath and surrounding villages, that might mean respecting Georgian proportions, preserving original details, selecting sympathetic brassware or creating a bathroom that feels entirely natural within an older house.
At Foxwood Bathrooms, every traditional bathroom is considered as part of the wider property rather than designed in isolation. We then carry that design through the physical renovation, from removing the existing bathroom and preparing the room to fitting, tiling, decorating and final handover.
Traditional,
without feeling
theatrical.
The strongest traditional bathrooms rarely rely on one obvious period feature. They are built from a series of quieter decisions: proportion, material, colour, brassware, joinery and the relationship between new elements and the architecture already present.
In Georgian and Victorian homes in Bath, we pay particular attention to scale, symmetry, ceiling height, original joinery, existing floor structures and the visual rhythm of the room.
The result should feel established rather than themed: a bathroom that could comfortably have evolved with the house over time.
The details create
the character.
A traditional bathroom is often defined by the details: the shape of a bath, the profile of a basin, brassware, heated towel rails, tile format and carefully selected finishes working together rather than competing for attention.
Old houses deserve
thoughtful decisions.
Period properties rarely behave like modern houses. Floors may be uneven, walls imperfect, plumbing routes restricted and original details worth protecting.
For us, that is part of the attraction. Good renovation work begins by understanding what is already there.
Our role is to introduce the comfort, reliability and performance expected from a modern bathroom while respecting the fabric and character of the property.
We allow for the normal preparation and making good that comes with removing an existing bathroom. Some conditions beneath floors, behind walls or within previous alterations cannot reasonably be confirmed until the room is opened up. If something unexpected is found, we explain it clearly and agree the appropriate next step before additional work proceeds.
From initial idea
to final detail.
Foxwood remains your point of responsibility throughout the project, bringing together specialist bathroom design, showroom specification, installation and aftercare. A complete bathroom renovation will typically take around 3 to 4 weeks, although larger or more complex period properties can require longer.
Colour should belong
to the whole interior.
Traditional rooms often benefit from a more nuanced approach to colour than simply choosing white. We regularly use Farrow & Ball paints within our projects, selecting shades that respond to natural light, existing joinery, stone, tile and the wider palette of the property.
Trusted in the home.
Responsible for the result.
Bathrooms shaped
by the homes
around them.
No two period properties are identical, and we do not believe their bathrooms should be either. Our work ranges from classically traditional rooms to more contemporary interpretations of period interiors, always responding to the property and the people who live within it.
